Hailing all the way from San Diego, frontman Ian Cochran found himself in Austin, TX alongside bassist Brad Bentley back in 2015. Struggling to find his way in music while living in California, the move served as an act of self-discovery. He had to battle some of his inner demons but despite all that, he continues to pave his own way to success through perseverance and dedication. Since then, Cochran has devoted more time than ever to developing his distinct and rugged sound through hours of playing and writing music. His voice is something of an anomaly in the world of music today, and what makes Cowboy Diplomacy stand out among the rest.
It’s not often that you get a bass player with as much personality as Brad Bentley. Born in San Diego, Bentley originally had dreams of becoming a star athlete but the universe seemed to have other plans for him. After a knee injury that led to a halt in his athletic career, Brad turned to music in 2012. Jamming alongside his good friend Ian Cochran, the two eventually picked up and moved to Austin, TX.
Born and raised in Bel Air, Maryland, drummer Matt Whilden found his way to Austin, Texas in 2016 with hopes of playing music in the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Quickly becoming involved in numerous projects, he often found himself playing alongside Cowboy Diplomacy, but it wasn’t until 2019 that the band invited him to join them as their new drummer. Whilden has brought his precise and fiery style into the mix and has quickly developed chemistry with the band. His groove and ability to spell a bright future for Cowboy Diplomacy.
Coming from a small town in Kansas, Billy Boswell’s Midwest roots have allowed him to tap into various styles of music. Boswell’s ability to sing, write and shred on the guitar has played a critical role in various projects around Austin. With a smooth and almost effortless style, Boswell has caught the attention of many including Cowboy Diplomacy. Now, as the newest guitar player in the group, Billy hopes to lend his talents in an effort to enhance Cowboy Diplomacy’s rugged sound and image.
